What ceramic material is best for furnace applications?

In kiln applications, we usually recommend silicon carbide (SiC) as the first choice. It is the preferred material for kiln furniture (such as beams, rollers, and saggers) and high-temperature heating elements due to its excellent high-temperature strength, high thermal conductivity, and outstanding thermal shock resistance, which can significantly improve the energy efficiency and service life of the kiln. If a cost-effective and well-performing general kiln component is needed, alumina (Al₂O₃) is the most cost-effective option. Silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) and partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) can also find their place in advanced kiln applications due to their unique high-temperature mechanical properties or phase transformation toughening characteristics.
