Project Experience

Case 1: Rapid Wear of Mining Equipment Bushings (Brazil Customer)
In 2012, we worked with a Brazilian customer engaged in mining conveying systems, where metal bushings were being used.
The issue was very clear: the service life of the bushings was only 2–3 months, equipment downtime was frequent, and replacement costs kept increasing.
At first, the customer only wanted to “try replacing with ceramic.”
However, as a custom ceramic parts manufacturer, our engineers did not provide a quotation immediately, but first clarified several key factors through our ceramic machining service process:
What is the equipment rotation speed? and Is there particle abrasion?,Is there any misalignment load? It was later confirmed that this was a combined issue of wear and slight misalignment. Our recommendation was not simply to “change material,” but:Use high-density 99.5% alumina (custom alumina ceramic parts),Adjust inner bore tolerance (reduce impact caused by assembly clearance)
Improve surface finish through ceramic grinding
Later feedback showed that the service life increased to 8–10 months, and the customer switched to bulk purchasing of custom ceramic parts. Our engineers always analyze real working conditions before providing solutions based on ceramic machining.

Case 2: Cracking of High-Temperature Furnace Tubes (European Customer)
In March 2015, we worked with a European customer from Turkey who experienced repeated cracking issues when using ceramic tubes.
They had already changed several ceramic parts suppliers, but the problem persisted.
Their initial judgment was that the material was not heat-resistant.
However, after further evaluation through ceramic machining, we found that: The temperature was not continuously high, and there were frequent heating–cooling cycles, Local stress existed
This is a typical case of: Thermal shock + structural stress
We implemented two improvements: Replaced standard alumina with a material more suitable for thermal shock and Optimized tube wall structure (to reduce stress concentration) and added coating
In subsequent use, cracking was significantly reduced, and service life was clearly extended.
Ceramic failure is often not due to material limitations, but incorrect application.
KosRemic understands the characteristics of each material and recommends the most suitable solution as a professional ceramic parts supplier.

Case 3: Dimensional Instability in Automation Equipment
In 2024, we worked with an automation equipment customer who required ceramic spacers for positioning.
The issue was not the material itself, but: Dimensional variation within the same batch, Unstable assembly
Reduced equipment precision
Their previous supplier could manufacture the parts according to drawings, but could not ensure consistency of precision ceramic parts.
We focused on: Controlling sintering shrinkage for batch consistency (sintering ceramics); Performing ceramic grinding on critical dimensions (instead of machining all dimensions); Establishing a simple batch inspection standard
Finally, assembly stability was significantly improved, and the customer moved to long-term supply of custom ceramic components.

The Ultimate FAQ Guide to Custom Ceramic Parts
Are you a factory or a trading company?
We are a factory. We purchase equipment, invest in factories, and have mastered most of the key technologies from bauxite raw materials to the final assembly of products for engineering ceramics.
Can you make it exactly according to the drawings?
Most of the time, yes. This is what we do most often.
However, we generally don’t quote directly based on the drawings. We will take a look first, for example: Are there any unreasonable tolerances? What’s your usage scenario? Are there any risky structures in terms of processing? Or is there any wrong material usage?
If there are, we will inform you in advance. Not to change your design, but to avoid any problems when you use it later.
What if I’m not sure what material to use?
This is actually quite common. Many customers are unsure at the beginning. Our engineers will ask you: What equipment will it be used on? What’s the approximate temperature? Are there any requirements for wear and corrosion? We will help you compare different materials. For example, is alumina more suitable, or zirconia, or should we switch to silicon carbide for better stability? Often, choosing the right material is more important than the processing itself.
Is ceramic very fragile?
To be honest, we are often asked this question. Ceramic is indeed brittle, and there’s no need to avoid this fact. But the key point is not whether it’s brittle or not, but rather: where are you going to use it and how are you going to design it? Many customers think that ceramic is easy to break, but in fact, it’s because:
The structural design is not suitable? Or the wrong material was chosen? If used in the right place, ceramic can be more durable than metal.
How precise can you be?
If we just talk about processing capabilities, we can achieve a relatively high level of precision. However, we generally don’t aim for “extremely precise in all dimensions” right from the start. Instead, we focus on which dimensions are critical in your drawings, such as mating surfaces, sealing surfaces, or rotating parts. We will pay special attention to controlling these areas. This way, we can ensure performance without unnecessarily increasing costs.
Can we make samples first? Or is it necessary to do the bulk production?
We can make samples first. This is actually the normal process for most projects. We will make samples for your confirmation, usually 1 piece. We also support this.
How long is the delivery time approximately?
This mainly depends on the specific project. For example, what kind of material is it? Is the structure complex or not? Does it require precision processing? We generally don’t give a very quick delivery time at the beginning.
Usually, after reviewing the drawings, we will provide a relatively reliable time, which is more valuable for your reference.
Can you make irregular parts or complex structures?
We actually do quite a lot of these. The ones we have made include: those with holes, multi-segment structures, and non-standard cross-sections, etc.
For this kind of thing, I suggest you directly send us the drawings. We can take a look and give you a judgment or provide similar ones more quickly.
How to ensure batch stability?
This is actually a concern for many customers, especially those in the equipment manufacturing industry. Our entire quality control process is traceable. Additionally, we strictly control the batch of raw materials, the sintering process, the processing of key dimensions, and the tolerances.
If I want to start a project, what should I do?
You can first send a drawing or briefly describe the purpose. Our engineering team will communicate with you to determine: whether it can be done, what materials to use, if there are any areas that need adjustment, and the feasibility of the process. Then we can proceed further.
